Visiting Jackhouse Nature Reserve
Practical information drawn from primary local sources (Hyndburn Borough Council and the Prospects Foundation walk leaflet). No invented amenities or “best times” claims.
Getting there
By car: The council states there is no on-site parking. The recommended option is to park on Fielding Lane (BB5 3RY) and walk the remaining 5–10 minutes down Pot House Lane.
On foot: The Prospects Foundation “Discover Hyndburn” leaflet includes a circular walk that starts at Oswaldtwistle Library, 289 Union Rd, Oswaldtwistle, Accrington BB5 3HS (circular walk in the Prospects leaflet). and introduces the Jackhouse area.
Tip: If you use sat-nav, combine the nearest postcode BB5 3RU with the parking note above.

Access & surfaces
Footwear
The walk leaflet recommends walking boots or sturdy boots because approaches can be uneven and paths can be muddy.
Terrain
The leaflet describes a mix of tracks, footpaths and bridleways, with some rough areas. It also notes “good main paths” within the reserve.
Accessibility note
The leaflet mentions “Access for All” with newly laid paths, and says accessible entry requires parking/entering via Fielding Lane and Pot House Lane.
Facilities
The Prospects leaflet notes that Oswaldtwistle town centre is nearby and lists the nearest facilities at Oswaldtwistle Mills Shopping Village & Garden Centre.
Because sources do not provide a verified list of toilets, cafés, opening hours, or parking capacity, this site does not claim any.
Countryside Code (visitor behaviour)
The Discover Hyndburn leaflet includes the five points of the Countryside Code. In plain terms:
- Be safe, plan ahead and follow any signs.
- Leave gates and property as you find them.
- Protect plants and animals and take litter home.
- Keep dogs under close control.
- Consider other people.
Dogs: The leaflet also asks people to keep dogs on a lead due to horses and wildlife on the wider route.
